Evolution

Sometimes I fix stuff. The chainsaw, the gutter filters, the door locks, the truck, the table saw cover. Fixing a system, a person, a thing is based on my mind's illusion of possession. To feel in control, my mind says, "you own and must keep..." - an illusion of stability against the backdrop of change. In the case of the table saw cover, the sides had bowed from rain and the weight caused the bottom of the cover to slide to one side of the base leaving the base exposed to rain and other inclement weather. The table saw cover was evolving. I just was having no part of it.

To fix is also an evolution. The table saw cover has lasted for 3 years, and given its 3/8 inch plywood origin, had weathered extraordinarily well. Despite the cover not completely given way, the table saw is letting me know that - things had changed. Going forward - it would appreciate a moisture-free environment.

Change challenges ideologies of money, family, government, and person. As mammals, our innate sense of survival is dependent upon our perception of reality being consistent, constant, and unchanging. Regardless, our evolution as a species required us to let go of our beliefs and our concept of reality. I look at that saw cover and see myself. An old paradigm is crumbling, no longer fixable, usable, or applicable. Impractical to the point of non-recognition. Time to change.

The rain is heavy this time of year, but the plans have already taken shape for the new cover. The front panel came loose a couple days ago and needed a few bandaid screws to hold it together. I asked its patience in seeing me through the weather until dryer days would facilitate a new build. I asked the same of my self. Thank you Karen for the kindness you show me - as the seasons change so do the structures and environments of my existence.

Namaste
Karen
