Water

I'm building a pond. A water source for birds and a sanctuary to pay my respects for the element that accounts for over 90% of my form and is the sole force for existence.

Water IS when free to flow - uninhibited - without boundaries. Geographically graded downhill, water drifts over, under, around circling vortexes and pooled bottlenecks - paradise.

Universally solvent, water bonds with other ions dispersing their particles dissolving the substance. Akin to a mediator separating the parties, creating space and dissolving the fight. Harmony rests in water.

Epitomizing self-mastery, water exemplifies the sovereignty of purpose - which is attitude. If I spend the entirety of my existence focusing on my attitude toward life rather than the idea I have about it, I would be free. Water has no problems because water has no predisposed position. Humans are disturbed not by things, but by their perspective of them (Epictetus original quote in Enchiridion).

Above, we move boulders. This task may be labeled as "hard." But only the boulder is hard. Labeling the task invites comparison, allowing the mind to control rather than serve. Wouldn't it be better if...entertaining, but useless.

Picturesque beginnings of creation often bring doubt (aka comparison) resembling habitual questions such as: "Is it worth it?" Imagine water asking, "should I?" Do the task for the sake of the task - all else is futile.

Despite scraping the sod layer before laying down cardboard weed barrier to prevent grass and sedge growth, water will still seep into the earth below. Water has no boundaries.

Rainwater washed the rocks farmed from the upper garden fruit tree bed.

The deck's view south reveals the pond beginning to flesh-out with the newly placed boulders. Coming into focus but still opaque, foggy even, the space seemingly gives no hints. Like water - no predisposition. That's my cue. Get out of your head and get into the space. Go where the water flows. Uninhibited. Unencumbered. Free.
