Changing myself threatens not just my ideas of who I think I am, but also the ideologies of those around me. Change feels threatening because it exposes the fragility of thought. Ideas about the self change from moment to moment - utterly vulnerable at the mercy of a passerby, an insult, a jobloss, or the weather. Nothing brings out the naysayers in my head more than my evolution because from those naysayers in my head's perspective again in my head, my change is all about it. My change forces me ("all of us") to reckon with my own ideas of who I am because who I am is always based on who I think you are. And the I in which this human form is placed is so fluid, I never wake up to the same me twice.
